Residents of Green Hill, Inc have a lifetime of professional experience, historical knowledge, talents and interests not often recognized in their later years. At Green Hill Inc., these talents are celebrated, as evidenced by the resident art exhibit now on display at the West Orange senior care facility, at 103 Pleasant Valley Way.

“Art strengthens the sense of community, by drawing people together in appreciation for each others’ work” says Maggie Frank, activities director at Green Hill. “Art is also an effective form of physical therapy for seniors. Participants who have physical limitations can increase their range of motion through painting and strengthen dexterity with clay and molding. In addition, the act of artistic expression is found to relax senior’s bodies and minds bringing a sense of physical and emotional well-being.”

A number of Green Hill residents have professional arts experience. Artist Marty Silverman served as president of an art league. Resident artist Dr. Lipman took watercolor lessons in Paris, and Tess Langeveld was an advertising art director in NYC. All three joined a dozen of their neighbors as artists in the exhibit.

Artist Alice Adelman stated, “Seeing the art on the wall fills me with pride, and reminds me that seniors can continue to create beautiful art”.

Artists currently showing at Green Hill range in age from 81 to 94. Green Hill provides art classes weekly for all residents and takes seniors on trips to regional museums and galleries.
