Green Hill Gifts for Seniors 2010

Holiday Gifts for low & moderate income Essex County Seniors
collection to begin in September

The senior living residence, Green Hill in West Orange, New Jersey announces today collection is to begin of donated presents for the 2010 Gifts For Seniors program, in September.

Following the successful distribution of hundreds of donated gifts distributed to low and moderate income senior residents in West Orange, New Jersey in 2009, Green Hill is expanding its efforts to include other senior facilities in Essex County.

“We want to get a jump start on the collection process this year as we had such a tremendous response last year. We will need the extra time for our residents to wrap all of the gifts,” said executive director, Toni Davis.

A committee of residents from Green Hill led by Ms Margaret Bruckman, coordinated the wrapping of the donated items which included, memory games, picture frames, slippers, candles, specialty items, music CD’s, collectibles and other age appropriate items.

“It’s important not to forget the seniors who are less fortunate during the holidays. It can be a lonely time for us,” said Bruckman. “While holidays are mostly for the children, it sure does bring us joy to be a part of the fun.”

The first annual Gifts For Seniors program held last year celebrated the groundbreaking of The Green House® Homes at Green Hill, an innovative new model of 24 senior nursing care residences opening in Spring 2011. The Gifts For Seniors program was award by the New Jersey Association of Homes and Services for the Aging with the 2010 Community Service Award.

Donated unwrapped items will be collected at Green Hill Inc, 103 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange, NJ 07052 after Labor Day. Gifts may be dropped off between the hours of 8am and 8pm at the front desk. For bulk donations pick up may be arranged. Call Barbara Heins at 973-731-2300 for information.
