Green Hill Recipient of NJAHSA Community Service Award for Gifts for Seniors Program

Wednesday, July 14th at 11am ,Green Hill, Inc today received the 2010 Community Service Award from the New Jersey Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, for Gifts For Seniors, a senior gift giving program held for West Orange low and moderate income seniors this past holiday season.
The presentation was made by NJAHSA President and CEO Michele Guhl at, Green Hill, the senior residential facility at 103 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange. “Our organization presents a number of awards each year, and I have to say, they were very touched by the Green Hill Gifts for Seniors program,” said Ms Guhl. “It’s a wonderful example of seniors giving back to their community.”
Assemblywoman Mila Jasey spoke on behalf of the 27th district legislators which include Assemblyman John F. McKeon, and Senator Richard Codey. “I was here for the ground breaking of the wonderful Green House homes, being constructed out back, when the Gifts For Seniors program was presented,” said Jasey. “There were a huge amount of gifts collected and I am sure they were much appreciated by the seniors in West Orange.” Assemblywoman Jasey continued by volunteering to help wrap gifts with Green Hill for their expanded 2010 Gifts For Seniors program which will extend to low & moderate income seniors at senior centers throughout Essex County.
West Orange Mayor Robert Parisi, at his first mayoral appearance since taking office on July 1st commended Green Hill for reaching out to the West Orange community. “There is nothing that speaks to us more as a community, as a society, as when we give back to others, as Green Hill has done with the Gifts For Seniors program,” said the Mayor. “The program speaks volumes about Green Hill and the residents here, and what you mean to this community.”
Councilwoman Susan McCartney, congratulated Green Hill on behalf of the entire West Orange Township Council. Newly elected Councilman Victor Cirilo, was also in attendance.
“As a community Green Hill prides itself on the programs and services that we provide our greater community of West Orange, and northern New Jersey” said Executive Director and President Toni Lynn Davis. “Whether its opening our doors to any number of community groups, working with local high schools on intergenerational learning opportunities, or our newest project the Gifts For Seniors program, Green Hill resident are eager to give back.”
Green Hill residents wrapped over 150 donated gifts for the holidays which were distributed to senior residential communities across West Orange. For the holiday season of 2010 Green Hill intends to expand the program to include seniors in local hospitals and senior citizen centers in Essex County.
The expansion of the Gifts for Seniors program is in celebration of the opening in summer 2011 of the Green House Homes at Green Hill, innovative, 24 hour nursing care home-style residences that nurture the growth and emotional well-being of seniors.
